About the Work
This installation by artist Booker Johnson explores chaos theory, complexity, and his personal experience with ADHD. ADHD is sort of a paradoxical thing it is mostly known for its distractible nature– jumping from one idea to another. But another symptom is the exact opposite: hyper concentration. These two forces are represented in these works as machine-made chaos and human chaos.
These works also represent the idea of complexity. Everything is complicated. Visual, conceptual, structural, and physical complexity are essential qualities of our twenty-first century world. Chaos theory is a concept in math/science colloquially called the butterfly effect.
It describes a property of some systems, where small changes to initial conditions can lead to vastly different results. Booker applies these ideas in his art practice by utilizing iterative processes.
