About the Artist
hooz is a multidisciplinary artist born in New York City, currently practicing in Los Angeles. Their multifaceted practice orients itself around object making as prayer and mode of channeling ancestral knowledge. Via installation, hooz opens portals inviting wisdom into a given space. Their objects are birthed in alternate realities (the hoozverse) then placed as evidence of the otherworld in the context of their shared human reality.
hoozreligions emerge as their practice draws them closer to the spirit of their forebears. hooz pushes environments to function as sanctuary while engaging with the immediate material confrontation. hooz's crafting of evidence provides the tools necessary for viewers to forge a deeper understanding of their many and ever growing worlds. A specific language proliferates, accessible to all, but understood by a select few.

"dragonhooz: Choose Thy Fate"
The latest manifestation of the hoozverse, dragonhooz facilitates exploration of and coming to terms with self via object making through the lens of “dragons.” This ongoing exploration surfaces notions of mythology and world building. Investigating “dragons” allows for opportunities leading to deeper understanding of hidden facets of self and formulation of imagined histories.
With a focus on elemental dragons, dragonhooz serves as a mode of investigating overlaps of elements that make up hooz’s human self and are integral to dragon identity. Looking to fire and water -the duality and tension created by the meeting of the two- hooz reflects on their own essence in the ways it correlates with both elements and how it alludes to the constant search for balance in life.
