About the Work
“Prey” is a series of artworks depicting an awareness of human mortality through the horrors and expectations of living in a biological female or femme presenting body. From birth to death, from childhood to old age, the female body is constantly avoiding rape and murder. Humans are not as separate from the animal as they think, but the difference is that female bodies do not have the privilege of blocking out this awareness. Suppression of female sexuality and sexuality in general leads to this violence.
In defiance of the suppression of female sexuality, I am interested in those who choose to interact in power exchanges of “predator and prey” through ethical sadomasochistic relationships.
Bdsm, in this case, is more than pleasure. It is an artform, and escapism from the fragile human structures and societies we have created. It is an acceptance of nature in its chaos and love. It is an acceptance of humans as nature, sexuality (in all its forms), and death.
